Dr. Jeffrey Murawsky, the President’s nominee to succeed Robert Petzel as undersecretary of Veterans Affairs for health, has since 2001 supervised one of the hospitals linked to the scandal over bad medical care.
Murawsky is currently network director of the Veterans Integrated Service Network for the Great Lakes region, which includes Edward Hines, Jr. VA hospital in Chicago. The AP reported May 15 that the hospital made secret lists to conceal long patient wait times for appointments.
Prior to a promotion within the VA, Murawsky spent almost five years as a senior administrator at the hospital, from 2001-2006…..
What are the odds that Barack Obama’s nomination of Dr. Jeffrey Murawsky, Associate Manager Medicine and Neurology Services, Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital Illinois to replace Robert Petzel is a red herring especially since Petzel’s retirement was officially announced last fall?
The Department of Veterans Affairs has begun looking for a successor to Dr. Robert Petzel, chief of the frequently criticized Veterans Health Administration, who is slated to retire in 2014.
Petzel, appointed by President Obama as Undersecretary for Health at the VA in 2010, has come under fire on Capitol Hill over management problems at VA hospitals in Georgia and Pittsburgh, where a number of patients died. He has also been criticized over the longstanding backlog of disability claims and for failing to provide lawmakers with requested information in a timely manner. The VA said in a statement Friday that Petzel would be retiring ‘as planned, following a four-year tenure,’ but will remain in the job until the Senate confirms a successor….
Or is it that the malignant narcissist just does not give a damn because he’s so self-absorbed.

Obama had Petzel’s predecessor lined up long before the news broke last week that Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki asked Petzel for his resignation. (The White House officially announced Petzel’s predecessor May 1, 2014.)
At the same time, the VA hospitals under Murawsky’s charge were among hospitals mentioned in a $200 million settlement that involved (since September 11, 2001) over 1,000 wrongful death cases. (H/t Gary Bass -Facebook).
…The agency also made wrongful death payments to the survivors of 12 veterans who died under the care of the agency’s three Chicago-area hospitals, including $300,000 to the family of a veteran who died of internal bleeding after landing on his head during a fall at the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center.
Overall, 45 Illinois cases resulted in settlements, the fifth-most of any state, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico….

Waiting list scandal:
It is both preposterous and an insult to our veterans that Obama would nominate one who emanates from the same bureaucratic cesspool as the despot himself.
The stench of corruption within the Veterans Administration is all over Murawsky who has been around long enough, that if nominated, he enters his new position with unclean hands.
This nomination stinks. Obama’s silence tells us that cleaning up the Veterans Administration is not a priority or even on Obama’s list of things to do.
Plain and simple, Barack Obama could not be bothered and for the duration of his time in the White House, he is only too happy to let Eric Shinseki and Jeffrey Murawsky to take fire.
