The Associated Press is accusing the Department of Justice who has seized two months of its phone records of “serious interference” of APs constitutional rights.
The records seized by the DOJ include the records of 20 plus telephones which were assigned to Associated Press journalists for the months of April and May in the cities of New York, Washington and Hartford, Connecticut.
Records were also seized for a switchboard and a shared fax line.
AP President and chief executive Gary Pruitt demanded in a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder that the Justice Department return the records to AP, and destroy the copies.
“There can be no possible justification for such an overbroad collection of the telephone communications of The Associated Press and its reporters,” he wrote. “We regard this action by the Department of Justice as a serious interference with AP’s constitutional rights to gather and report the news.”
AP said it was notified of the collections in a letter Friday from Ronald Machen, a U.S. attorney in Washington. The letter said the Justice Department received a subpoena, although, AP said it remained unclear as to whether a judge or a grand jury signed off….
Apparently, the AP who has faithfully carried Obama’s water are not thrilled that their chickens are now coming home to roost and rightfully so.
Not that they should. Eric Holder and Barack Obama are violating the first amendment. It is just that the AP has neglected their job as journalists for the past four and a half years. Instead of reporting the news, they have ignored Obama’s constant overreach and acts of tyranny and now that the Constitution is being shredded in their front yard, they cannot handle it.
