Gun Control Myths (FirearmsTruth.com)
This FirearmsTruth series examines gun control myths that the media continues to propagate. The first gun control laws were intended to keep minorities from being able to possess firearms. Today, the stated purpose is to keep criminals from obtaining guns for the furtherance of criminal activity. Oddly enough, the number of armed criminals has increased during the same period that gun control laws have proliferated. Draconian anti-gun laws seem to have the opposite effect of those intended. Myth One: Guns Cause Crime:
Gun control advocates often pander to people’s emotions and so-called common sense. It is easy to argue that the availability of firearms increases crime. But careful study shows this simply isn’t true. If anything, legal gun ownership reduces crime, at least violent crime. Read more
Myth Two: Firearms Restriction Reduce Crime:
Gun control advocates have claimed for years that laws which restrict firearms ownership reduces violent crimes. The United States has over 20,000 different gun laws, most of which are at the state and local level. Since the 1960’s states and cities have passed stricter firearms laws intending to reduce violent crime but more often than not violent crime increased. Read more
Myth Three: Guns are if little help in defending against criminals:

I have a dear friend who lives in Canada. They have the same type of law. IF someone breaks into your home…you cannot shoot them, you MUST call the police. By the time the police get there, you and your family could be dead.
I live in Texas. I was 60 yrs old at the time and living alone.
I had a break-in as I was sleeping. I awoke to a man standing over my bed. He had already robbed me. My purse was in the living room. There was no need to come back to my bedroom. I suddenly awoke from a deep sleep and could see the figure of a man standing at my bedside with an object in his hand (there was a light shinning into the hallway window leading to my bedroom. I threw my foot up by instinct and blocked the flow of the “hammer” (he dropped as he ran).
Of course, I called the police. One police officer told me to buy a gun and shoot the next sob that did that even if I had to shoot him in the back as he was leaving the house…then drag the body back “into the house.” NO QUESTIONS WOULD BE ASKED.
