Apparently, the voices opposing SOPA have become so loud that even Barack Obama in his bubble can hear us.
“The Obama administration has waded into the controversy over SOPA, the anti-piracy bill whose supporters include major entertainment industry groups like the MPAA and RIAA, and whose opponents warn it could lead to censorship and seriously threaten the existing structure of the internet.
The Obama administration, in the form of a White House blog post Saturday, isn’t just casting doubt on SOPA. They’re explicitly speaking the language of the bill’s opponents.
Just like the voices of warning about the potential overreach of the bill — voices including leaders of prominent Internet innovators like Google, and the innovator of them all, Al Gore — the White House officials say that any attempt to curtail online piracy of movies, music and other content must not be permitted to extend into outright censorship of law-abiding users of the internet…”
As I skimmed through responses to the White House stepping into the fray yesterday on the internet, I was taken aback by how many consider Obama’s stance on SOPA a victory.
It appears that no one recognizes that the White House’s stance on SOPA is an illusion intended to deceive and lull one into a state of security.
Having made no secret of his intentions prior to this day, the unsightly truth is that Obama has been “fiending” for the internet kill switch; therefore, we can be certain that Obama plans is to push this legislation through at whatever costs.
“…The White House response is authored by Victoria Espinel, Aneesh Chopra, and Howard Schmidt. According to the statement, the three have a background in intellectual property law, information technology, and cybersecurity. The administration’s authors say that the White House supports the creation of what it calls ‘new tools […] in the global fight against piracy and counterfeiting.’ Like SOPA’s authors, the authors of the White House response view piracy and intellectual property violation as a threat to the American economy and job market.
However, the authors spend most of their time talking about what shape they would like to see that kind of legislation take. First and foremost, the authors say that avoiding censorship is paramount, and that any legislation must avoid ‘disrupting the underlying architecture of the Internet.’ These two points would seem to stick right at the heart of the most offensive portions of the current SOPA legislation. If you’re looking for a direct attack at the bill currently in Congress, you have to got to his passage….”
There you have it America, an illusion, nothing more.
Proof in point, less than a month ago, the snake oil salesman misrepresented his intentions repetitively to anyone within earshot by maintaining that he would veto the National Defense Authorization Act of 2012. Obama signing NDAA under the cover of New Year’s Eve while Americans were distracted did the opposite.
Only the most gullible aka an Obama zombie would believe that Obama is anti-SOPA. Obama lied then and he is lying now.
