According to the Obama administration, the average vehicle would cost about $1,300 more, although some private analysts say the increase will be much heftier.
Obama is a dreamer, a flip flopper and a liar. Auto corporations have already confirmed that the cost of building these vehicles are extremely expensive. One does not have to be a rocket scientist to know that the cost will be passed down to the consumer, which means that $1300 more for these vehicles is incredibly unrealistic. We are not children or fools for that matter, Barack.
Not only has this man put this nation on a never ending path of debt, but he will raise taxes on everyone including the middle class to a point where none of us will be able to afford these expensive yet deadly vehicles.
According to J.D. Longstreet in his post:
“In this scribe’s opinion, reports from America’s legendary auto making region describe the cars the Feds are going to force the new “government motor companies” to build as little more than “death traps.” Once you consider their small size, lightweight, and cramped seating spaces to accommodate passengers – you may arrive at the same conclusion.
Small passenger compartments with three rows of seats and little or no trunk space, and tiny little engines that run on about as much power as a one hundred watt light bulb will soon be the standard for all automobiles built in America. What a pathetic excuse for an automobile!”
Why should POTUS concern himself? By the time the new rules, regulations, costs, price and loss of life go into effect, Obama will be just a memory in the White House.
He keeps talking about how these vehicles will be cost efficient. However, I have heard nothing from his corner about just how deadly these vehicles will be on the roads of America. The bottom line is that our president will be forcing Americans to purchase deathtraps.
Since the government is taking over the auto industry, one can only discern that this is about government making money and little else.
A family of five will need to purchase two of these 21st century K cars micro cars to get around in which will obviously double their cost instead of decreasing it.
I refuse to drive my family around in a matchbox car. Give me my Dodge Challenger Hemi any day over Obama’s preferred deathtrap, the K car micro car whose outer skin will be thinner than a sheet of aluminum foil. Oh yes, such a vehicle would really do well in a collision. Are you hearing me Barack?
How can I forget? Barack is driving around in a gas-guzzling tank while he advocates deathtraps for everyone else. By the way, just how many of those tanks did the government build for the messiah? What do they call it in Europe? The Beast.
Back in the 70’s when the government went on an energy saving mission, Chrysler built the K car. By the latter 70’s, the K car had gone the way of gogo boots. I remember that well. Every time I rented a car, I would find one of those “we can’t get rid of these damn things to save our life” vehicles waiting for me.
The K car was a failure for Chrysler. Americans got rid of their K cars the first chance they got.
According to an article in Forbes magazine, a recent study shows that no amount of airbags, electronic stability control or roll cages can defeat the laws of physics which means if someone gets into a head on collision in a micro car, the results are disastrous.
“A really, really poorly designed or insufficiently designed large- or medium-sized car may be more or less protective than the best-designed small car, but that’s something that you’re not going to be able to tell just by looking at crash-test ratings,” says David Zuby, senior vice president of vehicle research for IIHS. “So all things being equal, if you’re concerned about safety, you want a bigger, heavier car.”
The statistics support Zuby’s claim. Death rates in minicars involved in multi-car crashes are nearly twice as high as those in large sedans, according to IIHS data. In single-car crashes, 11 people per million were killed in large sedans in 2007, compared with 35 per million killed in small cars. In mid-size cars, the death rate for single-vehicle crashes is 17% less than for minicars.
The new report is especially noteworthy because normally the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) crash tests are performed using a stationary wall and a single car–not two cars being crashed into each other.”
Why Small Cars Won’t Keep You Safe
Obama’s dream of the 21st century K cars micro car will bring nothing but headaches and endless litigation to the auto companies, who will, of course, fail. POTUS is a bonehead and so is anyone else who goes along with this scam.
Forcing auto corporations to build 21st century K cars micro cars is exactly why politicians need to stick to what they do best, bamboozling and lying to their constituents instead of running a business. It won’t be long before they have run the American auto industry into the ground permanently.
Hat tip: J. D. Longstreet .
Actually, the Chrysler K-Car was actually a huge moneymaker for the automaker in the 1980′s, and its legacy continues today with the minivans.
The K-Car was used to develop the minivan market to get around the feds’ intense fuel economy standards that had automakers to get rid of full-size cars and wagons.
The modern push to minivans and SUV’s all trace their heritage to the K-Car when Chrysler’s minivans came on the market in the early 1980′s, and they all used the K-Car as its basis. While the original K-Car minivans stopped after 1995, all Chrysler minivans have K-Car in their heritage.
The Obama microcar is the mandate. Ford agreed, and was spared. GM and Chrysler put their eggs in the truck basket and were each punished.
