San Diego’s waterfront was crawling with rebellious Republicans Friday morning.

About 350 protesters showed up at the Embarcadero, just north of the Star of India, at about 9 a.m. for the protest. The event was was organized by Dawn Wildman of the Neighborhood Republican Club, whose members are upset about the new taxes that were written into law last week as part of a budget deal carved out in Sacramento as well as the giant stimulus package coming out of Washington.

“We are standing up for ourselves, voicing our displeasure with our representation in Washington, in Sacramento,” Wildman said. “We’re tired of being taxed without adequate representation.”

The budget deal was necessary to plug a $42 billion hole. The plan cuts $15.1 billion from programs, primarily education, and raises $12.8 billion in revenue, mostly through increases in the sales tax, personal income tax and vehicle license fee.

Protesters tossed large clear plastic bags — stuffed with shredded paper — into the harbor. The bags has strings attached that were used to retrieve them later.
